DEANS TESTIMONY
I was born in Derby in the mid sixties, lived in manchester and eventually started school in SW London. My 2 grandmothers were Romanies, but I grew up in houses. I had an unhappy childhood and couldn't wait to grow up. I knew I was different but didn't know why; I never fitted in anywhere.
My parents were into the occult and I saw strange things. My dad left for Australia when I was 7; he had people after him for gambling debts; he was an alcoholic so I was glad when he went; the arguments stopped!
In my teens, my mum had to go into a mental home and she became an alcoholic when she came out.
I got into Heavy Metal music at 13 and started drinking cider with my mates; we got into motorcycles and I started taking drugs. I couldn't handle the pain inside of me and didn't see any meaning to life. I couldn't cope with life/society and got more into the biker scene and started taking more drugs; I ended up doing some bad things and was part of a biker/criminal gang. I was very aggresive and very paranoid, full of hate (for myself first) and carried a hatchet around with me.
After some trouble I felt let down by my so-called "biker brothers" and started looking for something else. I decided that I wanted to travel with horses, so I managed to get a job in a riding stables, grooming horses and leading hacks in the woods; the pay was £60 a week,so I lived in a tent. I learnt how to care for horses, so i'd know how to travel with one.
About the same time I started searching for some meaning to life and started mixing with witches and occultists; I used to see the Earth as my mother and would visit stone circles alot. I'd gotten back into bikes by then and was working as a despatch rider; I was out of my head everyday on drink/drugs. I had many supernatural encounters too, but I was protected for some reason.
In 1990,aged 23 I walked out of my job and decided to hit the road; I vowed never to live in a house again! I hitched a ride to a stone circle in Warcs, whose owner I had met some years before; she let me live in a hut by the monument for a while. After a few weeks there, some Christians from a church 25 miles away turned up and said God had told them to come and meet someone(me), they offered to take me to their church the next Sunday. I went 'cos they seemed genuine people who were down to earth, not what I thought Christians were like! but they did tell me i'd go to Hell if I died in my sins. I thought these people were mad 'cos they danced when they sang and spoke in tongues. At the end of the meeting a church leader came and asked me if he could pray with me, I said yes; he then started speaking in tongues and I started to feel strange; he cast some demons out of me! He then asked if I wanted to give my life to Jesus; I said yes and he prayed for the Holy Spirit to fill me; I felt real peace and as though someone had poured a bucket of love over me! I lived in that church and got baptised.
I found being a christian really hard and backslid; getting back into drugs/drink etc..but I knew that God was real and couldn't forget; I was out of my head for 11 months, mostly in Amsterdam. I got jaundiced(yellow) and was coughing up lots of blood and was a wreck; one day in Cornwall I felt the Holy Spirit telling me to go back to the church i'd been in. I surrendered and went back.
Life as a Christian has not been easy but God has been very faithful; He's changed me alot and given me real hope. He's healed me and has worked in my mum to set her free too, answering my prayers. I even baptised her!
I've made many mistakes as a Christian, but God has used me to help criminals, bikers, homeless, travellers etc... He made life worth living! He got me a good Christian wife and given me good Christian friends.
If you're a Christian just hold onto God's hand; He won't let you go! Stay honest with Him and He'll see you through.
If you're not a Christian then you're missing out on a clean heart,Heaven and alot of help for those you love. Give your life to Jesus Christ; there's nothing better!
